Character Design

I’ve recently started designing characters to add to my paintings. A friend told me that my work is something they would have loved to have seen in a children's book. I knew that my style was extremely expressive anyway, but adding characters would mean that I could start telling stories through my work.

Here is a character that I have started to create in preparation for a book I am writing.

I have created ’Mika’ in Procreate on the IPad Air. This was a recent purchase for me, and a first attempt at creating digital art. I love that I can watch back the drawing process!

Though Mika is generally a happy character, she does have her off days. Being able to capture a range of emotions in my drawings lends itself perfectly to the world of illustration.
